Exploring Edmonton: Local cafes

These are three must-visit cute cafes across the city!

Edmonton is a fast expanding city with an ever-evolving culture. It is filled with cafes, theatres, parks, galleries, and more. So let me take you on a trip exploring some must-visit spots across the city. Our first stop here features cute eating spots. This list includes local cafes which all have a distinctive feature to them. Let’s dig in!

Felice Cafe

This family-owned cafe located on Stadium Yards is not just a local cafe. Everything they serve is sourced from local businesses across Edmonton — allowing for a variety of deliciousness under one roof. The cafe’s interiors are green and simplistic, which makes for a chill place to spend time in. From their menu, the vegetarian Mama Han’s Puff Pastries were a highlight for me. The filling is a savoury assortment of vegetables including potatoes, peas, carrots, bell peppers, and broccoli, covered in a soft buttery crust. The macarons they serve have a different combination of flavours every week and are so light, airy, and not too sweet. Additionally, they roast their own coffee and offer a variety of espresso-based drinks. If you are a fan of matcha, I’d recommend their matcha latte too.

Cat Cafe on Whyte

This cafe is probably the dearest to me because, as the name suggests, Cat Cafe on Whyte is also a temporary foster home for cats! It is so peaceful to sit there, sip on a refreshing drink, and pet the cutest cats. The best deal is to book sessions worth $15 per hour where you get to spend time with the fur babies and get a free drink. The money you pay goes towards maintaining and caring for the cats. And the best part is these cats are actually up for adoption!

Cafe Versailles

Located on High Street, Cafe Versailles offers aesthetics, ambience, and great food all at an affordable price. All the dishes they serve are halal and their desserts are simply exquisite. The multiple times I have visited them, I have always wanted to buy everything off their display but of course, I had to choose a limited few items. This is a go-to brunch spot for many. And while Cafe Versailles is famous for their soups and sandwiches, personally I am a big fan of their desserts. Their lemon tart is one of the finest sweet treats that I have ever tried. The crust is buttery and sweet, and the lemon curd is creamy and tangy. It is a harmonious combination of distinct flavours. Additionally, their almond croissants are also a must try. Baked to perfection, they look golden, their texture is airy, flaky, and buttery, and the rich almond filling has that subtly sweet and nutty flavour.

Jasleen Mahindru

Jasleen is a third-year student pursuing a double major in economics and mathematics with a minor in creative writing. When she is not questioning her life decisions, she can be found watching cricket, reading poetry, scrolling through photos, or taking long walks, all while playing some good old Bollywood music in the background.
