Australian indie rockers Sticky Fingers rolled through the Needle Vinyl Tavern last weekend, Zoe was there, camera at the ready.
As I wandered around, I very quickly came to the conclusion that every Australian within reasonable distance had travelled to Edmonton to see Sticky Fingers, as I met people coming from Calgary, Banff, Jasper and even British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Zoe JoyallSticky Fingers, an Australian band very well known within their home country, played a show worthy of a much larger venue and audience, leaving myself, a fellow Australian feeling extremely privileged for the experience I was able to have. Zoe JoyallWith the high density of Australians, came the chaos I’d missed so dearly since coming to Canada. Crowd surfing, bottle smashing, glass throwing, aggressive moshing and lit cigarettes surrounded me in the crowd. I hope the Needle knew what they were getting themselves into. Zoe JoyallSticky fingers put on a great show, filling the Needle with the sweet sounds of reggae pop and endless good vibes. Zoe JoyallEveryone had their phones on record as Australians felt the need to prove to those at home that they really did see Sticky Fingers for a fraction of what it would’ve cost back in Australia and in a far more personal setting then they ever would’ve hoped to experience. Zoe JoyallSticky Fingers did not disappoint, as the moment they put down the guitars and left the stage, the crowd begun chanting for them to come back. The night finished off with two high energy encores, showing just how much Sticky Fingers enjoy playing for such an enthusiastic audience. Zoe JoyallLead artist, Dylan Frost (pictured) actively pursued an intimate connection with the crowd, with showering beer over the first few rows, and encouraging middle fingers to be lifted to the sky being his preferred form of communication. Zoe JoyallSticky Fingers showed off some beautiful vintage gear with unique retro style amplifiers and visibly worn foot pedals, showing both their experience and knowledge of their musical profession.
