What: Edmonton International Film Festival
When: September 26 – October 5

Admission: $15 per show
The Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) is celebrating its 38th year as a staple film festival in the city. EIFF features dozens of films, from documentaries to short films that highlight local Canadian and international talent. As well, during the festival, there are opportunities to speak with filmmakers, attend gala screenings and Q&A’s, and more. Among a few of the films being showcased this year are Mother’s Skin, Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story, and Sometime Somewhere. The EIFF takes place over the course of 10 days across three venues — Metro Cinema, The IMAX Theatre at the Telus World of Science, and Landmark Cinema at Edmonton City Centre.
What: Geoffroy’s “Good Boy Tour”
When: September 29
Where: Festival Place
Admission: $35 – $39
Geoffroy is a Montreal-based artist, who released his album Good Boy in June. He is an alternative artist who has released a steady number of albums over the years. Some of his hit songs include “Sleeping on My Own,” “Coastline,” and “Lost in Mumbai.” Geoffroy will be performing at Festival Place as part of his “Good Boy Tour.”
What: Harvest Book Fair
When: October 4 – 5 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Where: CKUA building
Admission: Free
Harvest Book Fair, hosted by Hungry Zine, is coming into its second year. This book fair holds a number of local literary vendors and artists based in Edmonton. Some of the numerous vendors include Audrey’s, Stonehouse Publishing, The Polyglot, and more. Held in the CKUA building, this book fair offers an extensive look into Edmonton and Alberta’s literary scene and is a great opportunity to speak with, shop from, and browse unique businesses.
What: The Bellow Project: Dwennimmen and damn magpies
When: September 27 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Convocation Hall
Admission: $10 for students
The Bellow Project is a performance consisting of spoken-word poetry and improvisational music. Dwennimmen (Shima Robinson) was Edmonton’s 2023 poet laureate, and is the author of Bellow — a spoken poetry collection released in 2021. Accompanying her are the damn magpies, an improvisation ensemble. The Bellow Project was developed with support from the Edmonton Arts Council.
What: Truth & Reconciliation Day
When: September 30
Where: Fort Edmonton Park
Admission: $5
On September 30, there are a number of events in the city dedicated to The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The Indigenous Peoples Experience at Fort Edmonton Park is inviting people to learn about the rich histories, cultures, and experiences of the First Nations and Métis people. The event includes an opening smudge and prayer, a presentation from Inuit performers, a Q&A, and more. Additionally, the proceeds from ticket sales will go towards developing Fort Edmonton Park’s Indigenous educational programming.
