What: Gateway to Cinema: BlacKkKlansman

Gateway to Cinema is a partnership between The Gateway and Metro Cinema that provides free movies to students! This month’s movie is BlacKkKlansman (2018), starring Adam Driver and John David Washington. Based on true events in the 1970s, the film follows the first black detective in the Colorado Springs Police Department as he infiltrates the KKK. You don’t want to miss it!
What: International Festival of Winter Cinema
When: February 9 to 18
Where: Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park, picnic site #2
Admission: Free
The International Festival of Winter Cinema (IFWC) is the world’s only free outdoor winter film festival! IFWC showcases local films, as well as films from artists all around the world. Bundle-up and visit the snow theatre when you can!
What: Origins + Exploration Concert
When: February 10, 7:30 p.m.
Where: McDougall United Church
Admission: $15 student tickets
The Chronos Vocal Ensemble is collaborating with the University of Alberta Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers to bring together a mass choir of almost 100 voices. The three choirs will also perform independently. Repertoire for the night will include music from Canadian composers and the Chronos composer-in-residence Stuart Beatch. Support Edmonton’s choral community by attending this concert!
What: Togather Chinatown Art Fair
When: February 10 – 11, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Where: Edmonton Chinatown Multicultural Centre
Admission: Free entry
Celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Togather Chinatown Art Fair, an arts and community market! The market showcases local art from Black, Indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC), marginalized, and emerging artists, as well as small businesses. There will also be a lion dance at 1:00 p.m.!
What: Silver Skate Festival
When: February 9 – 19
Where: Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park
Admission: Free
Edmonton’s longest-running winter festival is back! The Silver Skate festival offers so much to do for a family or friend-outing! Once you’re done skating, check out the snow sculpture garden, the performers on the Folk Trail, or the Indigenous pavilion at the Heritage Village. There is so much to explore!
