2021 Students’ Council and General Faculties Council candidates announced

Here is the list of 51 students vying for various Students' Council and General Faculties Council seats.

The list of students hoping to represent their faculties on Students’ Council and General Faculties Council (GFC) have been announced.

Campaigning will begin on March 9 at 9 a.m. and will be completely online. Voting will take place on March 17 and 18 for all undergraduate students.

So far there are over 50 candidates running for the various Students’ Council and GFC seats. However, there are still races with no candidates running.

Students’ Council

Students’ Council consists of 34 student councillors representing 15 faculties, as well as the five SU executives and the Undergraduate Board of Governors Representative. A councillor’s duty is to consult and represent their constituents while guiding the direction of the Students’ Union as a whole. Councillors meet every second Tuesday to vote on bylaws and policies such as those that determine the Students’ Union’s stance on tuition, deferred maintenance, and other issues. Councillors also work with various committees and boards.

General Faculties Council

General Faculties Council (GFC) is the university body in charge of making decisions related to academics, such as program creation, suspension, curriculum changes and more. GFC consists of 158 members, including university administrators, deans, professors, and around 39 undergraduate student representatives. GFC meets every month and has subcommittees that meet regularly.
