Top 5: Favourite Halloween candy and treats

Even in quarantine, make sure to celebrate Halloween this year by picking up some of our recommended Halloween treats!

For fanatics of all things sweet and all things spooky, Halloween is a day to look forward to every year.

Undoubtedly, it will look very different this year, that doesn’t mean the fun has to end, as long as you are following safety rules and precautions. It remains an integral part of my childhood, and maybe yours as well. To commemorate Halloween this year, here are some of my personal favourite sweets to receive on Halloween — see if you agree!

5. Hershey’s Chocolate

A classic that you’ve likely tried some time in your life – it doesn’t matter if it’s chocolate kisses or bars, dark chocolate or cookies ‘n creme. I remember getting excited whenever I saw these getting put into my trick or treat bag. Occasionally, there would be a kind soul which would give out full-size bars (bless them, seriously). You can’t go wrong with these!

4. Sour Patch Kids

Don’t fight me on this one, but Sour Patch Kids are the best Maynard candy (yes, I’m talking to you, fuzzy peach and Swedish fish fans). Even now I still eat these; they’re far too addictive to stop, even if they are probably the cause of the majority of my cavities. They have always been a delight to see in my pile of Halloween candy.

3. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Apparently, Reese’s are the most popular candy in the world, which is unsurprising, considering most people I know love them. They’re so satisfying to eat, especially all in one bite. I actually didn’t really like them as a child, so I’d give them to my friends whenever I got them, but now? I question if Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups have become my main food group.

2. Jolly Ranchers

I bet you didn’t see this one coming. Honestly, there’s nothing incredibly unique about its flavour, but I may be biased considering how much they remind me of my childhood. They just taste like nostalgia. It often reminds me of the times my friends would argue whether the chewy or hard candy version was better (I’m personally team chewy, but I don’t judge!). You’ll definitely catch me with these on Halloween this year…while studying.

1. Twix

If you asked me a year ago what candy I would rank first, there’d be zero chance of me saying Twix, because I never gave it a chance. But once I did? I regret having ever told anyone that there’s no way I’d find a new favourite. Everything about it is supreme; the creamy chocolate coating and crunchy filling (this is not an advertisement) reminds me of this time of year and makes me look forward to Halloween even more.
