Police currently investigating $180,000 vandalism at Foote Field

Multiple slashes to the dome at Foote Field as an act of vandalism may be costing the university thousands to fix.

According to an Edmonton Police Service (EPS) media releases, the incident occurred on September 13 around 10:35 p.m. The suspect gained access to the dome by climbing over a rail on the west end of Foote Field.

The suspect walked adjacent to the dome, slashing it multiple times. The damage is estimated at $180,000.

The suspect has not yet been identified.

The dome was installed in 2016 to convert Foote Field, a multi-sport field at South campus, into a year-round facility. At the time, it cost $3.7 million to install, with $1,100,000 raised from donations and provincial grants.

In response to the incident, the university said “the safety of our campus community remains intact.”

According to the university, the dome will continue to operate and they are currently looking into both repair and replacement options. They also said “the safety of our campus community remains intact”
