Brew Crew: Nude Vodka Soda
Fizzy and fresh, this is a perfect summertime drink
5% Alc./Vol., 355 mL
This past summer I tried White Claws for the first time and learned that my favourite fizzy drink is vodka soda. I used to not buy into the hype of spiked seltzers, but I was quickly won over by how drinkable and refreshing they are. However, and this is a big deal, I may have found a drink that unseats the de facto king of vodka sodas, and that’s the Canadian made Nude Vodka Soda.
Although the Nude can’s minimalist black-text-on-white is unassuming, the flavour packs a solid punch. I tried the Classic Lime flavour for the purposes of this review, and I have to say that it is leagues better than the Lime White Claw, and just as good as the Black Cherry White Claw.
My favorite candies of all time are sour gummy worms, and the Nude Classic Lime vodka soda tastes exactly like that. Relatively odourless save for the slight hint of citrus rind, an ice cold Nude vodka soda is sour but not overly sour, and ever so slightly citrus-sweet, with notes of tangy fruit and green gummy candy. It might be my dream drink. It is also excellent to use as a chaser for harder liquor, fantastic straight out of the fridge, and can even be drank at room temperature.
Nude vodka sodas are by far the best citrus flavoured vodka soda I have tried, and seeing as I might have unintentionally become a vodka soda aficionado, you really should trust me on this! Nude carries on the vodka soda tradition of being calorie-wise and unsweetened, but you couldn’t tell that by the taste. For those of you who enjoy cold citrus-flavoured radlers and margaritas, I would wholeheartedly recommend Nude Classic Lime as a primer into the wonderful world of vodka sodas.
