UofA Athletics Playing at Saville Centre, the University of Alberta Pandas won every round-robin game they played. Seven games. Seven wins. By the end of Saturday, there was no debate about who had the cleanest week in the building.
It started fast. Alberta shut out the University of British Columbia 9-0 and followed it up with a 12-0 win over the University of Lethbridge on Thursday.
The University of Victoria gave them a tight match later that day, but Alberta still came away with a 6-5 win. That ended up being the closest game they played all weekend.
The dominance continued on Friday. The Pandas beat the dynamic University of Regina squad 8-5, then handled the University of British Columbia Okanagan 6-4. Neither game ever felt out of reach. Alberta stayed patient in these big moments and moved on.
Saturday finished the sweep. A 9-4 win over Brandon University was followed by a tight 4-3 game against the University of Calgary. Even then, Alberta kept their composure. They did what they had done all tournament.
The Golden Bears also had a strong round robin on the men’s side, dropping only one game and locking up a playoff spot of their own. However, the story of the round robin belonged to the Pandas.
They showed up at their home stadium, and dominated when it mattered most.
