What: Until Further Notice: A Year in Pandemic Time Book Launch

When: October 6 at 7 p.m.

Amy Kaler, professor of sociology at the U of A, launches Until Further Notice: A Year in Pandemic Time, a personal account of living through the first year of the pandemic.

What: Pumpkins After Dark

When: Sep 29 to Oct 31, every Thursday to Sunday
Where: Borden Park
Admission: $21.95 for adults

Celebrate Halloween early with the annual Pumpkins After Dark event. Explore the orange-brick road of pumpkin sculptures and live pumpkin carving demonstrations before heading to get some fall treats and sweets.

What: Edmonton Ghost Tours

When: Oct 2 to Nov 31
Where: Various sites around Edmonton
Admission: $22.23 and up for ages 16 and older

Tour around Edmonton this Halloween with tour guide Nadine Bailey! There will be haunted ghost tours at the U of A, Old Strathcona, Whyte Ave (Pub Tour), and the High Level Bridge Trolley. There will also be historical walking tours at the Edmonton Cemetery (Downtown) and Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

What: Local Love Market by NEWLIFE Clothing

When: October 8 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: 10012 79 Avenue NW, rear of building
Admission: Free entry

Support Edmonton businesses by checking out the bimonthly Local Love Market hosted by NEWLIFE Clothing. Vendors include Miminko Candles, Vintages 502, Thrifted By, and Purity Vintage.

What: Sisters in Spirit: “Highway of Tears” Film with Andrea Menard

When: October 4 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Where: Online via Zoom
Admission: Free

In commemoration of National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is hosting a viewing of “Highway of Tears.” October 4 is dedicated to honouring the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people, supporting grieving families and communities, and creating opportunities for healing. CTL’s Andrea Menard will be hosting the viewing as well as doing a debrief after the movie.

Arthur Macatangay

Arthur Macatangay was the 2022-23 Managing Editor for The Gateway. He will be graduating in Fall 2023 after four years in the specialization in immunology and infection program. If you don’t see him looking at memes on Instagram and TikTok, he’s either drawing digitally, trying out new songs on the piano, bouldering, or hanging out with his dog.
