Marble Pedestal: Fall, the best season

With beautiful scenery, pumpkin spice lattes, and Halloween, there's no question this season deserves our love

It’s the best time of year again: fall. Summer is coming to an end, the leaves are changing color, and shelves are stocked with knit-sweaters. It’s about as good as it can get.

Fall is the perfect in-between season. It doesn’t make you hate getting out of bed in the morning like winter, nor does it make you want to sit in front of your air conditioner all day like summer. The weather is always perfect. Going for a walk on a fall day is almost the best thing you can do: cool autumn air right in your face, no snow in your shoes, and no burning sun making you question why you came out of your house in the first place.

It’s also the season with the best outfits. There are so many possibilities of clothes to wear in fall. All the coats, knit-sweaters, shoes, and skirts. I have to restrain myself from buying ankle-boots everytime I step foot in the mall. The best part is you don’t need your bulky winter jacket to cover up all your outfits, or worry about the snow ruining your favourite shoes. Evidently, I am very concerned about shoes.

Most find it impossible not to acknowledge the fact that fall is, without a doubt, the most picturesque time of year. The bright colours of the leaves before they hit the ground will always be the perfect backdrop to every one of your Instagram photos. After they fall, when the ground is littered in reds, oranges and yellows, you get to step on all the crunchy leaves and there is nothing more satisfying than that.

Lastly, I can’t mention fall without talking about Halloween! If you live in Edmonton, it might be snowing by Halloween, but the holiday remains a fall staple nonetheless. All the decorations filling up every aisle in every store. All the candy that’s on sale and the pumpkins that are everywhere. It’s such an exciting time of year, filled with cavities, imaginative costumes, creepy decorations and (hopefully) some scary pranks. Even if Halloween is not your favourite holiday it’s always a thrill to give your friends a good scare and it is undeniably the best time of year to stock up on junk food.

Even though fall introduces us to shorter days every year, which seems to be the only bad thing about the season, it still has so much to offer. Although daylight savings confuses me every year we do manage to get an extra hour of sleep, which is definitely a win.

Fall welcomes the beginning of a new school year and pumpkin spice lattes every year. To top it all off it also has two names: fall and autumn. Which other season has that? None. Clearly, one name isn’t enough for a season which gives us more than any other.
