This plebiscite is asking if students continue to support paying $4.10 per semester (fall, winter, spring, and summer) to a fund that distributes $290,000 per year in grant funding for recreation at the U of A.
“Yes” side — Sarah Jevne
What is this plebiscite trying to accomplish?
Sarah Jevne: We’re just trying to reinstate the campus recreation enhancement fund as a student fee as it currently has been $4.10 and we’d just like to keep that going. It funds a lot of programs that are really beneficial to the students on campus so we’d like to see it come back this year.
For those who don’t know, what is the Campus Recreation Enhancement Fund?
Jevne: It’s $4.10 that each student pays each semester and it funds over $290,000 worth of recreation programming here on campus. Anyone can apply for funding and then that funding is distributed through rec skate, rec swim, club sports, and it keeps intramural costs low. All those sorts of things.
How much will students be paying if this plebiscite passes and how was that cost determined?
Jevne did not answer.
Why should students care about this fund?
Jevne: I think recreation contributes positively to a students university experience it’s a really integral part of having a healthy life and is really important to a lot of students here on campus.
