Photostory: ‘Inside Out’ exhibit

With the raw power of student vision, the 'Inside Out' exhibit transformed Rutherford atrium before spring arrived.

The Rutherford Library Galleria blossomed into a sanctuary of student vision from April 9 to 30, as the Inside Out exhibit breathed life into the atrium. This vibrant showcase, curated by the department of art and design, wasn’t just a display; it was a physical dialogue of sculptural mastery, weaving together a year’s worth of creative labour into a landscape ripe for discovery.

The exhibit was specifically curated to showcase complex political sculptures and deeply evocative psychological art pieces, aiming to leave a lasting and transformative impression on every visitor. The works represented a full year of artistic exploration, moving beyond surface aesthetics to address critical contemporary issues and the intricate landscape of the internal human experience through three-dimensional form. By inviting the campus community to view this collection, the exhibition allowed the emerging artists to reveal their deepest thoughts and observations, their ‘inside’ world to the public ‘out’.

This display served as a vital platform, not only for celebrating the students’ technical skill and thematic maturity, but also for encouraging dialogue around the powerful role of art in confronting difficult subjects. Transforming the normally academic setting of the library, Inside Out offered a unique, temporary environment for creative and critical expression, making a direct link between student practice and the broader world.
