Photostory: Igloofest Edmonton

Igloofest Edmonton's debut had outdoor EDM in a frozen ICE District, big DJs, and attendees dressed like winter "party animals" to see them.

Igloofest, the outdoor winter EDM festival, debuted in Edmonton on March 12–14. The festival has deep roots in Montreal, where it launched in 2007 in the Old Port and built a reputation as one of the coldest — and most committed — electronic music events in the world. The setup at Fan Park in the ICE District stuck pretty close to the original formula.

The festival even leaned into that mindset with its unofficial “dress code,” encouraging attendees to balance warmth with their rave fits. This year’s “party animal” theme showed up exactly how you’d expect. There was neon, faux fur, and ski suits that probably haven’t been worn since the early 2000s.

For a debut year, the line up was ambitious, with artists like Alison Wonderland, Disclosure, and Deadmau5. All figures with long-standing influence in electronic music. However, the bill wasn’t all out-of-town names. Some Edmonton talent being featured as well, including local DJs like Mikey Wong and Kosmix.
