GreenWing comes to Edmonton for Winterruption 2026
Award winning band, GreenWing, talks touring, some big opening spots, and their recent release at Winterruption 2026.
Sarah HopkinGreenWing, an award winning Saskatoon–based four piece, came out to Edmonton for Winterruption 2026. The band is Matt Stinn on vox and guitar, Anthony Allegretto on guitar, Declan Hills on bass, and Nathan Henry on drums. Stinn and Allegretto sat down with The Gateway ahead of their set to chat about touring, opening for big names, and their recent release.
The band’s debut record, Late Bloomer, released in 2022, and their follow-up, Eatin’ It, released in 2024. Now in 2026, the band is touring their past releases. “We’re doing a lot of showcasing and touring right now. We want to hold off on doing another full length [record] until it’s a bigger thing,” Stinn said.
The band, formed during the COVID-19 pandemic, has opened for some big names like Three Days Grace, Mom Jeans, and even Wheatus. Allegretto said his favourite was opening for Three Days Grace in 2022 at SaskTel Centre. “It’s the place we grew up going to shows as a kid. They paid us a case of beer and took a big cut of our merch sales,” Allegretto said. “I don’t want to gas it up too much, it wasn’t a full stadium show, but it was for sure our biggest crowd,” Stinn added. They said they played for around 5,000 people.
“I extreme anxiety vomited and then had the best night of my life,” Stinn says
They got the opening spot after the band touring with Three Days Grace was sick. “We got a call at like three in the afternoon to be at sound check in an hour,” Allegreto said. “They were like ‘you have two minutes to answer.’ So I called my boss and was like ‘hey, can I go do this, or I quit.’”
Stinn said that “it’s not everyday somebody asks you to play in a stadium. I extreme anxiety vomited and then had the best night of my life.”
While opening for Three Days Grace was one of the band’s coolest experiences, they said opening for Mom Jeans had the best vibes. “Us opening for Mom Jeans is a perfectly curated pair. It felt like we were playing to people who were perfectly primed to like what we do,” Stinn said.
On the tour, Stinn and Allegretto said it has its ups and downs. “For 45 minutes of the night, I’m someone’s god. And then the rest of the time I’m trying to live on $50 a day and just keep our mental health good,” Stinn said.
Allegretto jokingly noted the duality of man. “This morning I had a good, beautiful 7:00 a.m. breakfast with my wife. Tonight, I’m gonna be eating a room temperature roast beef sandwich that I bought at a Co-Op five hours away from here with my boys,” he said. And Stinn added that he would gladly do it any day of the week.
“This one really felt like the universe gifted us a song,” Stinn says
After their last tour, the band had a turnover in members, bringing in their new bassist, Hills. Their newest release, “All Hard Feelings,” was born of that tour experience and was the first time writing with him. After some ups and downs on their last tour, Stinn said the band had a lot to say. “It was one of those songs that kind of flopped out on the floor a little bit. We didn’t have to work too hard for it … this one really felt like the universe gifted us a song,” Stinn explained.

Stinn added that this song was also a new chance to write with a new member. “[Working with Hills] felt like we were doing exactly what we’ve always done,” Stinn said. “But, like the next step, the next evolution. The things that were traditionally struggles felt easier. And we also all put in the work to be better communicators and work better with each other. [Hills] is all about tweaking [songs] until it’s right. He’s so unafraid to try ridiculous things and then also come back and just play a whole note if that’s the right move.”
