What: Edmonton International Film Festival
When: September 24–October 3

The Edmonton International Film Festival is back and has a stellar lineup. Attend the Edmonton premiere of Canadian and international films, and get the chance to attend Q&A sessions with directors, writers, and filmmakers. Notable Canadian submissions this year include a brand new Terry Fox documentary, a Zamboni operator coaching a down-and-out hockey team, and the life of a polar bear.

What: I Don’t Even Miss You
When: October 1–11
Where: Fringe Theatre Arts Barns
Admission: Pay-what-you-will

Local theatre-maker Elena Belyea‘s new show, I Don’t Even Miss You, is coming to the Fringe Grounds. A one-person production, the show follows Basil, a computer programmer, after they wake up and discover everyone they love is gone. The multi-media production combines iPhone footage, home videos, and synth-based electronic pop as they navigate their world of loss and identity.

What: Harvest Art and Book Fair
When: October 3–4, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Where: ArtsHub Ortona
Admission: Free

Hosted by Hungry Zine, the Harvest Art and Book Fair is a two-day, local market that highlights local visual artists, writers, and businesses. Spend a cozy weekend browsing the vendors and finding your next great read or favourite art piece. Plus, you can grab a coffee while you shop. On Sunday, attend a talkback with four Edmonton authors to learn more about their new works. Listen to the author, then buy the book!

What: Climates of Health: The Weather Inside Us
When: Running until October 3
Where: FAB Gallery
Admission: Free

The FAB Gallery is back for another school year with a brand new exhibit. Climates of Health: The Weather Inside Us features pieces from 13 different artists, hailing from Canada and all over the world. The exhibit explores the impact of climate change on humanity’s physical, mental, and economic health. Through a variety of mediums, the anxiety of global warming and our ever-changing world is put on display on the walls of the FAB gallery.

What: Ha-Ha-Haunting Improv Show
When: October 2–31
Where: Rapid Fire Exchange
Admission: $15 for students

Start getting into the Halloween spirit and head over to the Rapid Fire Exchange for a spooky improv show. Ha-Ha-Haunting is back for their third year, and they’ve got a whole new batch of scary stories to tell. The cast takes real ghost stories and uses them to inspire their eerie improv scenes. If you’re looking for a good, seasonal activity to start off your October, check this one out!
