What: Nextfest

Nextfest is celebrating its 30th birthday this year! The festival has always been a springboard for emerging talent in Edmonton. Featuring theatre, dance, music, visual art, and more, all from up and coming artists in Alberta. Head over to their website and check out some of the performance listings. The festival is bound to be jam-packed with fresh talent and performances like you’ve never seen!
What: Fruit Loop Pride Block Party
When: June 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Where: Grindstone Theatre
Admission: Free
Kick off Pride Month with a kick-butt block party! Start the morning with a drag brunch and drag story time. Then, enjoy live music, art showcases, and drag shows, all from local artists and performers. Don’t forget to stop by the artisan fair! Bring your friends, family, and dogs to the gayest block party of the year for an awesome time.
What: Screening of Animal Nation – Bison
When: June 11 at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Royal Alberta Museum
Admission: $10
Take a peek at the Animal Nation film series by swinging by the Royal Alberta Museum and taking in Animal Nation – Bison. Learn how Indigenous communities such as the Kainai Blood Tribe were able to reconnect with their cultural and ecological ties to bison. See how Elk Island National Park helped to reintroduce bison to the prairies. Catch the documentary, then maybe go visit the museum’s exhibits afterwards!
What: Now Hear This! Festival of New Music

Where: Mile Zero Dance Space and Holy Trinity Anglican Church

Celebrating the 15th edition of their annual festival, Now Hear This is crammed with experimental music and ground-breaking artists. Performers incorporate dance, science, sculpture, and more into their musical performances, creating a concert space like never before. Head on over and check out some of the wonderfully weird concerts!
What: Fully Committed
When: June 4–21
Where: Varscona Theatre

Written by Becky Mode and directed by Farren Timoteo, Fully Committed is a one-act play fully committed to making you chuckle. Follow the daily exploits of Sam Peliczowski as he attempts to man the phones of Manhattan’s busiest restaurant. Amidst the chaos of hungry reservation-seekers, Sam must also balance the calls of his own life and career.
