What: Spring OddBird Art & Craft Fair
When: May 8–10
Where: Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre
Admission: $5
The OddBird Art & Craft Fair is returning with tons of local artists! Located in Old Strathcona, the fair features over 70 local vendors and organizations, all raring to sell anything from ceramics to indie literature. Stop by and pick up some awesome art or just grab a snack and take in the sights!
What: Wallflower Exhibit
When: Opens May 9
Where: Art Gallery of Alberta
Admission: $12 (student price)
Visit the brand new exhibit coming to the Art Gallery of Alberta! Wallflower features a wide range of mediums and artists, all focused on the same theme: wallpaper. Or, more specifically, the world that exists within and outside of wallpaper, and the role that it plays in our lives.
What: FascinAsian Film Festival
When: May 12–16
Where: Multi-Venue (Art Gallery of Alberta, Metro Cinema, and Landmark Cinemas)
Admission: $10 per movie
The FascinAsian Film Festival is a prairie-based festival featuring Asian writers, directors, and performers. This year, they are presenting five feature films and 15 short films. Check out the theatres and watch some super cool Asian-Canadian storytelling.
What: Swing at Fringe
When: May 13
Where: Fringe Grounds Cafe
Admission: Free
Attend a free swing dance night! The Swing at Fringe is a monthly social evening that lets folks swing the night away for no extra cost. Swing on by, grab some snacks and a dance partner, and be ready for fun!
What: Craft-Friendly Screening of 13 Going on 30
When: May 17
Where: Metro Cinema
Admission: $11 (student price)
Go enjoy a screening of the rom-com classic 13 Going on 30 in a crafter-friendly environment. Bring any project you’ve been working on, from knitting to sketching to cross-stitching. All crafters are welcome! And, if you don’t have a craft to do, Naked & Frayed and The Fibre Nook will have different kits for sale in the lobby so you can join in on the fun.
