2026 Students’ Council and General Faculties Council elections results

12 councillors will start their term on Students' Council in May. Another 18 students were elected to GFC.

The unofficial results for the 2026 Students’ Council and General Faculties Council (GFC) elections were announced on March 20 on the University of Alberta Students’ Union’s (SU) Instagram account. The official results will be published on the SU’s website at a later date, the post said.

A total of 2,508 students voted, which accounts for a 6.72 per cent voter turn out. The 2025 Students’ Council and GFC elections had a voter turn out of 7.35 per cent.

Students’ Council results 

Students’ Council is responsible for fulfilling the SU mandate and is the ultimate authority of the SU. Students’ Council has 19 seats for faculty representatives.

12 councillors have been elected to serve for 2026–27, leaving seven seats vacant. This is lower than last year’s election, which saw 15 councillors elected and four vacancies.

General Faculties Council results 

GFC is the highest academic governing body at the U of A. GFC includes faculty deans, professors, students, librarians, academic staff, non-academic staff, and all U of A vice-presidents. Elected representatives represent their faculties in meetings, and in subcommittees.
