SU Elections 2026 Q&A: Nursing Undergraduate Association Plebiscite

Undergraduate students in the faculty of nursing have the chance to vote on the NUA FAMF renewal.

The University of Alberta Students’ Union (SU) 2026 election is giving students the opportunity to vote on a faculty association membership fee (FAMF) renewal for the faculty of nursing by the Nursing Undergraduate Association (NUA).

The Gateway reached out to NUA for an interview and did not hear back before publication.

The NUA FAMF applies to undergraduate nursing students. The NUA FAMF renewal proposal was presented at the December 16, 2025 meeting of Students’ Council. According to this presentation, this FAMF renewal involves a fee increase.

Full-time students would pay $15 per term instead of the current $14.31, and part-time students would pay $11 per term instead of the current $10.60.

NUA Vice-president (finance) Matt Gamble said at this meeting that “without renewal, NUA would lose its primary source of revenue … no longer [being] able to fund essential operations or representation like the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association (CNSA), effectively severing [their] connection to national nursing students, advocacy, and professional development.”
