Leah HennigThe winter semester has very few good things going for it. In comparison to the fall semester, the winter semester seems like some kind of sick joke that no one’s in on. It’s frigidly cold, it gets dark way too soon, and getting anywhere is a drag. The winter has me feeling landlocked inside my own house because going out is always a losing battle.
Making it to class is incredibly daunting during the winter semester. The transit is always a good while behind schedule. But, on top of that, the transit app is always lying to me. Because of this, I have a million different layers on. And by the time I’m making my way into the humanities building, I’m already working up a sweat. Then once I sit down in class, I’m stuffing all of those layers into my backpack while simultaneously trying to get out a notebook or laptop. By the time I have everything in my bag, it seems like the class is already over.
What’s arguably worse is trying to make it home after class. Not only is the transit still behind schedule, but it also seems to drag on even more. Waiting for a bus that is late is bad enough, but doing it while hungry and tired is a punishment I wouldn’t wish upon my worst enemy. And being home isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Cooking dinner, doing homework, or both, seems like a near-impossible task. There just never seems to be a winning moment.
Even though I have a great many things to complain about, knowing spring and summer are around the corner is a great comfort. Transit will, unfortunately, continue to be late or nonexistent. And I will continue to be peeved about it.
