Top 5: Coffee places on campus

From drip coffee to lattes to iced teas, these are the top five coffee places on campus!

I am someone who requires a constant stream of caffeine running through my veins. Therefore, I also depend on a wide variety of coffee places to get this necessity. There are a number of coffee places on campus that can fulfill my java needs — but some stand out from the rest. Here are my top five coffee locations on campus where I go for some of my favourite snacks and drinks!

1. Tea & Coffee Company

Out of all the places to go for coffee on campus, Tea & Coffee Company has the best selection. It has everything, from regular drip coffee to kombucha. On top of the plethora of drink options, there are many snack choices, too. I personally love to indulge in the bagels, but there are also various baked goods and breakfast foods.

When I need a caffeine boost, my favourite drink to get is the iced caramel latte. The flavour is subtle enough that it’s not overpowering, but still has that necessary caffeine kick. For the days I don’t feel like coffee, I always land on the iced tea. There is the option to select any one of their tea flavours: raspberry hibiscus, strawberry pomegranate, blueberry, and more. Tea & Coffee Company has more reasonable prices, and the staff are always friendly!

2. Second Cup

As someone who spends most of their time on campus in the Tory building, having the Second Cup in the Business Atrium is a lifesaver for when I need to grab a quick cup of coffee in-between classes. It has more specialty coffee options compared to Tea & Coffee Company, however the food menu is not as expansive.

I especially like this location because of how quickly I receive my drink. Because I am able to get my Caramel Corretto in less than two minutes, I tend to go in the ten-minute break between my back-to-back classes. If you find yourself in the need for a fast yet delicious coffee, Second Cup is a great stop.

3. Remedy

When it comes to Remedy, some people might be conflicted — I’ve heard mixed reviews on the flavour of its chai. Personally, I enjoy it, even though I’m not an expert in how chai is supposed to taste. Remedy has a more diverse drink menu compared to some of the other places. If you’re opposed to their chai, I recommend the Jasmine Vanilla Fog and the English Toffee Fog.

While I also like to treat myself to a Iced Dirty Chai every once in a while, the prices often hold me back. I find myself cringing as the debit machine shows my $7.50 total for one drink — not including the tip. For this reason I don’t frequent Remedy too much. But for the times I do crave a sweet and creamy fog, Remedy is my go-to place.

4. Cookies by George

The aroma from Cookies by George threatens to pull me from my journey through HUB mall almost every time. The smell of delicious gooey chocolate cookies and fragrant whipped cream is often irresistible. While Cookies by George has sensational cookies and hot chocolate, if you are someone who prefers your coffee to not be as sweet, this place is not for you. I’ve dabbled in their enticing iced coffee drinks from time to time, but after one sip I get a toothache from the sugar. Yet, for the days that I crave that extra kick of sweetness, I head over to Cookies by George.

5. Daily Grind

Last but not least, the Daily Grind. Unfortunately, every time I get a coffee from here, I’m extremely disappointed. While the prices are decent compared to Remedy, the quality is just not worth it. However, that’s not to say I haven’t given it a fair shot! From mochas to lattes to plain drip coffee, each drink I’ve gotten has resulted in being half-drunk and thrown out.

While the coffee may not be for me, I will always make sure to stop by for the heavenly dutch brownie. It is a plain brownie with walnuts and frosting on top — similar to the McCain Deep n’ Delicious cake frosting. If you want a coffee that’s tolerable, but a brownie that will make you abandon all other desserts, make sure to head to Daily Grind.
