New permanent college deans appointed for five-year terms

"Please join me in congratulating all three deans and welcoming them to their new roles," Dr. Yiu said.

In a statement released from Dr. Verna Yiu, interim provost and vice-president (academic), it was announced that the three permanent college deans have been appointed, each for a five year term.

The statement announced that Dr. Brenda Hemmelgarn will serve as the dean and vice-provost of the college of health sciences, Matina Kalcounis-Rueppell as the dean and vice-provost of the college of natural and applied sciences (CNAS), and Marvin Washington as the college of social sciences and humanities (CSSH).

Dr. Hemmelgarn and Washington will start their terms July 1. Kalcounis-Rueppell, who previously served as the interim dean for CNAS will start February 1.

Hemmelgarn will also continue as the dean of the faculty of medicine and dentistry.

Dr. Yiu thanked the other previous interim college deans, Joseph Doucet (CSSH) and Greta Cummings (CHS), whose terms will end June 30.

“Their leadership has been critical to establishing the college model, and they have laid excellent foundations for their successors to build upon.”

The statement also extended thanks to members of the selection committees, and “their hard work and recommendations in these important decisions.”

“Please join me in congratulating all three deans and welcoming them to their new roles,” Dr. Yiu said.
