Top 5: Beverages for online classes

Online courses may not be ideal, but these beverages make remote learning much better!

Have you ever experienced a time when you were in the middle of an online lecture, but have the sudden urge to get something to drink, to avoid dozing off?

Online classes can be tiresome, especially if they go on for hours. In live lectures, you might be hesitant to get up from your chair to go grab a drink, because you don’t want to miss anything important. So, save yourself a trip to the kitchen by preparing your own drink for class. Here are the top five beverages to get you through online classes.

1. Water

It is no surprise water made it to the top of the list. Just a bottle of water should be enough to keep you hydrated throughout your class.

Staying properly hydrated is really important. Oftentimes, students forget to drink sufficient amounts of water per day. When you are dehydrated, you will feel tired and find it difficult to stay focused.

If you would like to add some flavour to your plain water, go ahead and add a slice of your favourite fruit. Some great options are oranges, strawberries, and lemon.

2. Tea/Coffee

For all the coffee and tea drinkers out there, I understand your need for caffeine to start the day. Whichever you prefer, we can agree that both these drinks are convenient beverages to keep you awake during lectures.

One advantage of not having classes in person is you don’t have to brave the morning lineups at campus Starbucks and Tim Hortons. Take the opportunity to experiment with different types of coffee or tea to suit your taste.

3. Fruit juices

The options for fruit juices are just endless. Fruit juices are a great way for you to get the energy that you need for the day. However, I would recommend choosing juices with a low sugar content. So, when grocery shopping for fruit juices, pick healthier options. Even better, you could try making your very own fruit juice at home. Personally, I love to explore my options with fruit beverages. So try out some exotic fruit juices like guava, kiwi, and mango!

4. Hot chocolate

Nothing beats a cup of hot chocolate on a cold, winter day. This easy-to-make beverage will keep you warm while giving you a little boost to keep your day going. If you decide to get creative, then definitely try making hot chocolate bombs. These treats are so much fun to make, since you get to style them your way and add toppings like marshmallows, sprinkles or chocolate chips. You can pre-make these chocolate bombs and add them to hot milk before tuning into your online lecture.

5. Smoothies

Last but not the least…smoothies! Smoothies are my personal favourite and I like to call them, “a breakfast in the form of a drink.” If you have an early morning class, smoothies are the perfect beverage to bring. They are super easy to make and save you a lot of time. Just like fruit juices, you have a variety of choices on what you add to your smoothie. When you don’t have enough time to fix yourself a proper breakfast, grab a smoothie to go.
