The Gateway is looking for magazine submissions!
Hello everyone! The Gateway, the University of Alberta’s official student journalism society, is excited to announce that we are seeking submissions of art and design-related work and creative writing to include within our magazine.
This year we have decided to incorporate themes for some monthly issues, which are meant to not only allow for a range of creative interpretations, but also provide structure to the overall organization of the magazine. However, to maximize creative freedom for our contributors, most of our issues will not be themed. We encourage you to look at the respective themes (listed below) when submitting work.
Themes:
(Your work may fit into or be inspired by one of these themes, but does not need to be.)
- Mental Health
- LGBTQ+ Pride
Although we may continue to send calls during the academic year, our goal this summer is to collect more submissions so we can plan accordingly for each issue, and also provide more feedback to students along the way. Our goal with this call is to provide space within our magazine for the showcase of excellent student work.
If your work is selected, you will be contacted and specific technical arrangements will be discussed for the best way to present your work. Submissions will be selected by The Gateway‘s Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, and Art Director.
The deadline for this round of submissions is October 4th, 2019.
Creative Writing:
All undergraduate students with creative writing (including but not limited to poetry, short stories, creative nonfiction, personal essays, etc.) are welcome to submit as many pieces as they’d like. There is no minimum word count, but pieces should be no longer than 3,000 words. Because of space restraints, we will be more likely to include shorter pieces. Please feel free to submit new or previous work.
Please direct any questions to Managing Editor Christine McManus at [email protected].
