Top 10: Memes of 2018, Honorable Mention #6: Let’s get this bread

In this top 10, our writer breaks down their favourite memes that came out of 2018. Pray for them and their sanity.

I love carbs. You love carbs. We all love carbs, except for the people who can’t eat gluten.

That’s we love getting up in the morning and getting this bread.

Out of all the slang terms we’ve come up with for money cheddar, moolah, dough bread is objectively the best one.

Why has this popped up in our meme lexicon? I have no damn clue. All I can say is that I say it incessantly and will never stop until I get the bread that I require.

“Let’s get this bread” has had great crossover appeal with g a m e r s this year, evidenced by the prefix of “good morning gamers” being attached to the beginning of the sentence.

I think the biggest appeal of this phrase is how “bread” has moved beyond its original slang meaning to mean anything that brings positive outcomes to your life. Need to go to class and ace that midterm? Then get out of bed! Rise and shine! Do good things for yourself!

We needed a rallying cry in 2018, something to motivate us to get shit done. This was the cry that emerged, and it will be the cry of a generation.
