Searing Hot Takes: SU Elections

President

Each candidate was responsible, competent, and ran good campaigns. But they were too damn nice to each other.

Rahman has a reasonable tuition idea and it’s better than wasting time trying to convince the government otherwise. He seems to understand the Alberta in the Alberta NDP.

Bondarchuk put up a good fight.

I don’t know what’s going on with Hanwell.

Vice-President (Academic)

Everyone knows Marina should have won. It’s almost terrifying how badly she wanted this job. Her campaign was professional and convincing. Hopefully she’ll understand how much she’s asking of faculties and will adjust accordingly.

Tom Patrick will go on to be an certified engineer and will make more money the year after he graduates than all the execs will combined.

Vice-President (Operations and Finance)

Robyn deserved it. How the fuck would anyone expect to win if they made a video pretending to be that convicted felon jackass from Wolf of Wall Street?

Vice-President (External)

I thought that boxing theme and Sandare’s incoherent metaphors would have tanked him. Also, the fact that he wants people to trust a boxer named Mike. He’ll do fine, though. He’s affable and it’ll be good to have an SU rookie lobbying the government after he gets training. He seems like he’ll bring a fresh perspective.

I really thought Cajina would win.

We were hard on Reed but he put up impressive numbers. Hopefully he’s learned what it takes. He needs better speeches though and also needs to find a better reason to compel students to vote rather than just imploring them to “Vote!”

Vice-President (Student Life)

Damn, this is unexpected. Francesca’s campaign was nothing special and I can’t even remember any of her platform points off-hand. I’m glad someone from CSJ is VPSL, though, because they know how to party.

Simao shouldn’t be discouraged. He came off as the most personable and the most knowledgeable candidate. Kevin Wang seems like a great guy to be around. Hopefully he’s back next year to make council lively. Flaman knows a lot about the SU and he’ll recover. He’s a Roughriders fan and he’s been through much worse.

The Gateway plebiscite

Fuck yes.

  1. Lol you need to realize that there was more to Mike than your shallow considerations of his theme and his being green. You should probably ask how he got prepared to take the office rather than touting around whiny comments like should win or would win bull.

    1. They said he will do well in the position and you call that a whiny comment?
