Meeting UAlberta: Courtney Gibb

Courtney Gibb
Arts 3 (Criminology)

How do you like Criminology?

I’ve really enjoyed it. Mostly because it offers a placement. So you don’t just go to classes, you have the real life application as well.

When you came in to first year, was Criminology your original plan?

I was trying to go into dental hygiene for my first year and a half. I was doing well, and then I went and did a volunteer service mission in BC. And I spent a lot of time with different populations, especially Indigenous populations up north. I realized there was a bit more of a need for that type of help.

If you could be in any other program, would it be Dental Hygiene?

I guess, yeah. It’s a good career.

How did your parents get to Canada?

My grandmother moved here from Australia. So that’s the most recent immigrant. But my other grandparents all came from Europe somewhere. Most of them from Wales.

What’s the most awkward thing that’s ever happened to you at a family dinner?

We get into a lot of political arguments. I fell like that’s always awkward. My grandpa’s very … He loves capitalism. So sometimes that’s a bit interesting.

What do you think will happen if Trump gets elected?

I don’t think he’s going to get elected. If he did, I’d take it in stride and see what happens. I think everything would be okay. He’s actually more centre than some of the other candidates, so he’s more liberal than he appears to be. He’s just a little sensational for me.

What do you think of Hawaiian pizza?

I think it’s good. There’s more flavours in it. It’s not just meat and cheese. If I’m going to spend money on pizza I’m going to get something interesting.

What’s the maximum amount of toppings you should put on a pizza?

As much as you can fit on there. Probably like 15.

If you had to pick between carrots, peas and radishes, what would you pick?

Probably carrots. They’re the sweetest of the three. Carrots are more versatile.
