Marvel broke many records during this decade and continue to grow
Helen ZhangAn entire decade has passed and, surprisingly, we are still here. From the world ending in 2012 to fidget spinners, this decade has been filled with iconic and weird memories. In this segment, our writer reflects back on this decade and decides which pop culture moments were the most memorable or the most influential.
Marvel is everywhere.
You can’t enter any store, social media platform or even someone’s house without hearing or seeing something Marvel-related.
This decade has been one for the comic book nerds. Marvel has released many record-breaking films since 2010. The release of Avengers in 2012 kickstarted the Marvel wave.
From then on, an array of superheroes and worlds were made into films. Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy are just some of the highest-grossing Marvel films. Additionally, Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing movie of all time, beating Avatar and Titanic. People couldn’t stop talking about these Marvel films for months after their release — and they still haven’t stopped.
T-shirts, toys, and memes were created — everyone knows Marvel without even watching the films. Robert Downy Junior is Iron Man, Chadwick Bozeman got tired of doing the “Wakanda Forever” salute, and Brie Larson kicked some ass — things we knew from watching promos and scrolling on Twitter.
However, I was a huge Marvel fan — the keyword being was. Due to the massive size of this franchise, I haven’t been able to keep up. I don’t hate Marvel, I’m just overwhelmed by them. Nevertheless, Marvel was a huge part of my childhood and my adolescence (Spiderman ftw), and it’s great to see that for other children.
Nevertheless, recent Marvel films have become too gimmicky and unstructured, but any issues that are present won’t stop us from spending tons of money on this franchise.
Also, Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse is one of the best-animated films ever and the fact that it’s getting a sequel makes Marvel even more memorable.
From films to video games to books, Marvel has us all in the palms of their hands.
