In our biweekly column Social Intercourse, we share our picks for notable things happening on campus and in Edmonton. Check out all these amazing local events!


What: Indie Sleaze Night 2.0
When: February 7
Where: 9910
Admission: $17.59

Hit up 9910 to “Dance Yrself Clean” to a solid indie sleaze playlist. With us going into Valentine’s Day, 9910 is saying these songs are guaranteed to be 69 per cent sleazier than the last Indie Sleaze Night.

What: VHSthetic VHS Fair
When: February 7
Where: The Aviary
Admission: Entry by food bank donation

Swing by The Aviary from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on February 7 to check out their VHS fair. Find some cool old tapes and get back in touch with non-digital media with multiple vendors to see all while supporting the food bank.

What: Tidal Wave
When: February 6
Where: World Waterpark
Admission: $20 for students

With World Waterpark tickets usually ranging from $54–$64, Tidal Wave is the perfect time to check out West Edmonton Mall’s water park. For Tidal Wave, the University of Alberta Students’ Union (UASU) subsidizes ticket prices to make them only $20 for students and $25 for non-students.

What: Lesbian Archive Crafternoon
When: February 7
Where: Latitude 53
Admission: Admission by donation

Check out Latitude 53 for a great opportunity to learn more about Edmonton’s 2SLGBTQIA+ past. In a joint event between Latitude 53 and The Archive Dive Project, you get to see Womonspace newsletters from 1983 to 2007, and then make your own cards based on your inspiration.

What: 4B Harm Reduction Family Day Fundraiser
When: February 15
Where: The Aviary
Admission: $15 in advance, $20 at the doors

Edmonton-based 4B Harm Reduction has a fundraiser show happening on February 15 featuring some local talent. Pi33 Girl, Pain is How We Learn, and Pearly Moon are all set to play alongside a couple other acts.

What: Edmonton Oil Kings vs. Lethbridge Hurricanes
When: February 16
Where: Rogers Place
Admission: $24.25

With a solid season underway, it’s the perfect time to go see an Oil Kings game. Go watch some good hockey at Rogers Place as the Kings go up against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
