Marble Pedestal: Edmonton’s new red pandas

Don't let the snow get you down, there's two new baby red pandas right here in Edmonton!

Fear not Edmontonians! All of our beautiful city’s ailments and your snow-related seasonal woes have been completely solved with one stroke of pure genius. Our beloved Edmonton Valley Zoo has conjured up two more red pandas! This brings our city’s ratio of human to red pandas from approximately 0.00000192 to 0.00000256. We are finally one step closer to the end goal of red pandas outnumbering us, hooray!

Red pandas are unequivocally the best animals in the world. They embody all of the key features that one looks for in a creature. The fuzzy, pint-sized gingers possess a raccoon type of aura, monkey-like qualities, and natural mystery. Genuinely what more could you want from an animal? Nothing.

Additionally, millennial and “Disney adult” audiences should be extra elated at this news. The zoo named our beloved furry little boys after Harry Potter characters. Edmonton now has its very own Weasley twins, Fred and George. Don’t worry about the twins being lonely as they will be in lovely company. They’ll share the enclosure with their mother Kiki and father Tango. Currently, the little babies are too small to be on display as they’re only a few months old and very sleepy.

Besides just being adorable, this is phenomenal news from a conservational standpoint as red pandas are an endangered species. The babies are truly a win for ‘Berta and red pandas alike. The twins also represent the third generation of red pandas born at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. The first set was born seven years ago and are clearly still going strong! If you simply must get more involved with the red pandas, the zoo offers an “Adopt a Red Panda” program. These not only help conservation efforts but also give you the symbolic status of a Panda parent.

If you can’t trek down to the zoo to see the red bundles of joy in person, don’t fret. The zoo streams the red pandas on Twitch seemingly 24/7 with lovely lofi beats, so you can check up on the boys anytime you wish for free!
