Marble Pedestal: Autumn

Fall is just around the corner, and as the leaves fall so do I. Madly in love with the season, that is.

As autumn approaches and the weather starts to cool, I can’t help but get excited for the upcoming season. Fall is the ultimate combination of fun, holidays, stress, and beautiful scenery.

A big part of why I love fall is the fashion. My wardrobe consists of far too many sweaters for summer to ever be my time to shine. This might explain why I’m always dressing for fall, even when it’s still 20 degrees out. Fall weather is my favourite — it’s not too cold, not too hot, and it’s the perfect weather to layer. Sweaters, boots, scarves, and Halloween-themed outfits all come out to play.

Another thing I appreciate about fall is the lack of bugs. As someone with an almost crippling fear of insects, I love the overall decrease in all manners of insects. The cool weather means no more flies or wasps flying in your face 24/7.

Fall also brings the joy of a fun warm drink. I know pumpkin spice lattes are all the rage, but I have to admit, they’re not for me. I’m partial to a hot apple cider, and I long for the day I can buy the packets year-round.

The holidays during fall are an added bonus. Thanksgiving dinner is always a highlight. The stuffing and pumpkin pie are arguably the best parts of the meal — sorry to any turkey lovers out there. Halloween, of course, can’t go unmentioned. It’s the time for themed decor, jewellery, outfits, and anything orange.

And let’s not forget one of, if not the best part of autumn scenery: the crunchy leaves. Nothing quite beats the feeling of a good stomp on a crunchy leaf. Although, the feeling of despair when a leaf that looks perfectly crunchy turns out to be soft and soundless is almost incomparable. Autumn leaves are also great while still on trees. The vibrant colours make for beautiful scenery.

With fall now here, I understand why some people mourn the end of summer and start of school. School, exams, and responsibilities loom ahead. But fall is undeniably a fantastic time of the year, with so much to look forward to. For me, autumn always conjures images of cozy blankets, a warm drink, and sitting down to watch Gilmore Girls.
