What: Jonathan Whitelaw Book Signing
When: August 31, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Where: Audreys Books
Admission: Free
Jonathan Whitelaw is an award-winning journalist and author from Alberta. His latest crime novel, The Concert Hall Killer, tells the story of a TV crime film crew that ends up involved in real-life murder. Whitelaw will be at Audrey’s Books, where you can get a signed copy of The Concert Hall Killer, and pick up some of his other novels.
What: Prairie Harvest Moon
When: August 28 at 2:30 p.m.
Where: Churchill Square
Admission: Free
Prairie Harvest Moon is an outdoor performance that features music from a variety of Chinese composers. Additionally, there will be an hour-long chamber music performance from local Canadian composers. The performance will be a mix of traditional and contemporary music, from composers such as JUNO award-winning Vivian Fung and Kevin Lau. With instruments like the oboe, and classical guitar, the music at Prairie Harvest Moon will be enchanting.
What: Purple City Music Festival
When: September 6 – 8

Admission: $15 – $35 per show
For music-lovers of punk and rock, the Purple City Music Festival is the perfect weekend of all-encompassing fun. Entering its third year, the festival prides itself in highlighting Edmonton’s diverse music scene with a variety of performers. Artists such as Tamaryn, Leathers, Real Sickies, and many more will be in attendance. The festival spans over three days, with performances occurring at a number of venues.
What: Segundo Sol by Ludmila Lima de Morais
When: September 3 – 21
Where: FAB gallery
Admission: Free
Segundo Sol is an exhibition that delves into the implications of technology on our emotional experiences. The art draws on Ludmila Lima de Morais’s experiences in the COVID-19 pandemic and the concept of confined spaces and memory. Morais is an Edmonton-based artist who navigates the convergence between traditional and digital media. Her work has been showcased in Brazil and Canada, and she is currently a master’s in fine arts (MFA) candidate at the University of Alberta.
What: University of Alberta Botanic Garden Concert
When: August 30, 5:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m.
Where: U of A Botanic Garden
Admission: $25
The U of A Botanic Garden’s ongoing outdoor music series invites listeners to enjoy music in the vibrant garden space. Each week there will be a different performer to watch — on August 30, there will be a soloist cello performance from Birch Nero. Head down to the Botanic Gardens for a serene evening full of instrumentals and lush greenery.
