What: Alberta Avenue Night Market: Holiday Edition
When: December 22 to 24
Where: Corner of 118 Ave and 92 Street
Admission: Free admission

Check out the final Alberta Avenue Night Market this year! There will be opportunities for last-minute gift shopping, as well as other fun events including skating. You can also compete in the Alberta Avenue scavenger hunt for a chance to win a prize basket. Enjoy this festive celebration with friends or family!

What: BUILT pop-up shop
When: Until December 16
Where: EAC Shop & Services
Admission: Free admission

BUILT is an annual pop-up shop run by the Student Design Association (SDA). SDA represents University of Alberta students and alumni that have taken design courses during their degree. BUILT is one of SDA’s biggest events, showcasing up-and-coming designers. Support local this holiday season, while also supporting Edmonton’s emerging talent!

What: Gateway to Cinema: Love Actually
When: December 21 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Metro Cinema
Admission: Free for students with valid I.D

Gateway to Cinema is a partnership between The Gateway and Metro Cinema that provides free movies to students! This month’s movie is Love Actually, an iconic holiday film. The plot follows nine storylines that are intertwined, all connected by love. What better way to get into the holiday spirit than a free movie with friends?

What: Noisecafé at The Aviary
When: December 19, doors open at 7:30 p.m., music starts at 8:00 p.m.
Where: The Aviary
Admission: $15 advance ticket, $20 at the door

If you’re someone that loves experimental music and noise, then Noisecafé is for you! This is the third-edition of the event. The roster of musicians includes Anna/Andy, Gary James Joynes aka Clinker, James Parrot, and Nathaniel Sutton. Check out this evening of eclectic sounds and explorative musical landscapes!

What: Spirit Of The Season premier
When: December 19 at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Metro Cinema
Admission: $11 per student ticket

Spirit Of The Season is a holiday comedy and horror film, created by local filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors. Edmontonians will recognize city streets in the background, as the film was shot in and around Edmonton. The plot follows a group of friends who try to escape the holidays, unsuccessfully evading the spirit of the season. The film touches on themes of family loss, queer identity, and poverty, exploring difficulties during the holidays.
