23 U of A emails in leaked list of Freedom Convoy donors, more than any other post-secondary institution

23 emails on the donor list were associated with the U of A — more emails than any other school or post-secondary institution recorded in the list.

There were 23 University of Alberta emails found in the list of donors supporting the Freedom Convoy protest — more than any other Canadian post-secondary institution recorded.

Christian fundraising site GiveSendGo was hacked on February 13. After GoFundMe stopped a fundraiser for the Freedom Convoy protest for violating the site’s terms of service and opted to refund all donors, GiveSendGo has been the primary platform for donating to the Freedom Convoy protest currently happening in Canada.

On Sunday night, the GiveSendGo domain began to redirect to a new domain — GiveSendGone[.]wtf. This redirection would show a video loop from the Disney movie Frozen, along with text criticizing the fundraising site and linking it to the January 6 insurrection in the United States. This was first noted by Mikael Thalen, journalist at The Daily Dot.

Following this hack, the data leak website Distributed Denial of Secrets obtained a list of donor information. This donor information contained almost 93,000 entries — including the names, email addresses, zip codes, and internet protocol addresses of those who have used GiveSendGo to donate to the Freedom Convoy protest.

The list of donors is not available to the public — it is currently only accessible to journalists and researchers.

Amidst these donors were emails associated with the U of A, and other post-secondary institutions in Canada.
