Spill the Tea: Milk Oolong Review

Want some tea, but don't know what to drink? Try Milk Oolong!

Spill the Tea is a series where our writers review various tea brands and tea types.

This may be stereotypical Arts student of me, but one of my favourite things to do is to wrap myself up in a blanket on a cold day with a cup of tea and a good book. Although I do love coffee (and need it to function), tea is calming and relaxing, which serves a different purpose to that of coffee.

Milk Oolong, or the ‘Jin Xuan’ Oolong, from Acquired Taste Tea Company, is a personal favourite of mine. This tea tastes milky without any actual dairy products being added, so it’s great for lactose intolerant people, and it has a nice aroma. I don’t put milk in my tea because I think it ruins the taste of tea and it’s gross. However, out of curiosity, I did try the Milk Oolong with milk and, oh my god, it’s fucking disgusting. This is a warning — do not add milk!

The Milk Oolong costs a bit more than average, but it can be re-steeped several times more than regular tea, so it’s cheaper in the long run.

Contrary to popular belief, tea can be caffeinated, depending on the type of tea. Oolong tea does contain caffeine, but it has less caffeine than black tea and more caffeine than green tea.

Milk Oolong is a classic among avid tea drinkers; the next time you go tea shopping, definitely add Milk Oolong into your cart, you won’t regret it!
