Marble pedestal: Get checked

It’s a dark and stormy night. You’re almost ready to enroll in your classes for next year, but you can’t figure out how to enroll in that one required course that you absolutely need to take in the upcoming fall term. You can almost hear the university buildings laughing at you as 2:00 a.m. rolls around and you realize you never took the prerequisite, just in time to get locked out of Beartracks. In a world of stress-inducing studies, registration checks (a.k.a. credit checks, program checks, degree assessments, program sheets, etc.) are a shining glimmer of hope.

Basically, a registration check checks the classes you have taken and are currently registered in to make sure you are on-track to complete your degree, making it a little bit easier to plan out future semesters and avoid enrolment nightmares. These checks are great if your faculty doesn’t have a standardized year-by-year chart for you to follow or if the amount of requirements you need before you can enroll in a Field Experience Term is making your head spin or if you just want to make sure that you are doing fine.

My favourite thing about registration checks is how easy they are. These quick little checks are easier to fill out than a BuzzFeed quiz. You fill out a 30-second form, meet with an advisor, log in to a program, or send a quick email, and then bam! You know you how close you are to finishing your degree and what is left. Just a note: the progress varies quite a bit across faculties so contact your advisor for all the nitty-gritty details.
