Alberta Ballet Presents Dracula
Alberta Jubilee Auditoria
November 4-5
https://www.albertaballet50.com/2016-17-season/dracula

Wanting to sink your teeth into something juicy this Halloween season, but ain’t tryna bite some random peep’s necks? Then check out Alberta Ballet’s performance of Dracula, choreographed by a critically acclaimed British dude named Sir Ben Stevenson. Even if ballet isn’t your forte, it’s hard to resist a story about eternal love and vampires. Think of it as a less shitty, more cultured, artistic version of Twilight, where the king of all vampires is the star. It’s Alberta Ballet’s 50th anniversary, so hey, they must be putting on some pretty spectacular stuff to have been around this long.

Halloween movies!
Metro Cinema
Now-Oct 31
https://www.metrocinema.org/

The Metro Cinema is putting on some fantastic stuff this Halloween weekend. This Saturday, October 29th, who ya gonna call? Go quote-along with the hyper-funny, original Ghostbusters (a.k.a the one without dumbed-down, super hunk Chris Hemsworth in it — sorry ladies). You’ll get to yell out lines like this and feel for a second what it must be like to be a comic genius the likes of Murray, Akroyd, Ramis, and Moranis. If you’re looking to get a good scare in, check out Ringu — it’s The Ring except the original Japanese version, so beware of subtitles. Don’t worry, you won’t die in seven days after watching it (though you might in your seat). Ringu plays on the 25th and 30th. Other goodies include: the late Gene Wilder’s Young Frankenstein, and the 3rd Annual Metro Halloween Mash on Halloween day.

Haunted Pumpkin Festival
Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm
Weekends until Oct 30th
https://prairiegardens.org/festival-events/haunted-pumpkin-festival/

This weekend is the last of the year to visit the annual festival held at Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm. This Halloween fest is filled with fun, more family-oriented activities, such as the seven acre Mega Maze, hay rides, a petting farm (which probably has cute goats n’ such), and a haunted house. Activities run from 10 to 5 with the special entertainment (like folk music and a freaking pumpkin cannon!) running from 12 to 4. If you’re looking for something more low-key and laid back to get in your Halloween fix while nursing a hangover, get some fresh air out of the city and check this fun festival out.

“Dead Centre of Town”
Hotel Selkirk, Fort Edmonton Park
Oct 26-31
https://www.fortedmontonpark.ca/events/dead-centre-of-town/

Fort Edmonton Park is putting on a freakishly great historical live action horror show for the last time of the year this weekend. Check out shows that will exhume “stories of some of Edmonton’s worst kept secrets, locked behind the guest room doors of some of the city’s best known hotels.” If you’ve found yourself recently wondering, “Hey, where’s a History of Supernatural Horrors class when you need it? This History of the Pre-Modern World seminar BLOWS,” well then, here you go. Oh, it’s also 18A, so be prepared for violence, gore, and an unsettling, blood-curdling good time.
