Got green and gold fever? I’m delving into the cosmetics closet to bring you varsity beauty at the top of its game. Read on to find out how to create a Guba-licious look for your next courtside appearance.
Start off by applying your base layers (e.g. primer, foundation, concealer, and a setting powder) to clean moisturized skin. Then fill in your eyebrows with brow powder, gel or a pencil to give them more definition. This step is optional, but it really makes eyes “pop” and helps to frame the face.
Now comes the exciting part: colour. Because this is a University of Alberta themed look, I’m using deep gold and vibrant green shades.
First, prime your eyelids with a shadow primer to help the colours to stay in place. Take a medium-sized eye shadow brush and sweep your gold shade from the inner corner of the eye all the way past the center of the lid. Then take the leftover shadow and gently pat it in the inner corner and on the lower lashline to create a half-line of gold on the bottom.
Now you’ll want to apply the green shadow to the outer third of the eyelid. Pat on the green and begin to blend it with the gold shade. Take a fluffy blending brush and go over the colours to make sure there aren’t any harsh edges. Add an ivory highlight shade to your browbone and use the fluffier brush to blend it with the green and gold for a seamless look.
Grab green eyeliner and trace over your upper lashline. I chose a metallic ivy green pencil here, but you could go darker, lighter, more matte or sparkly in a variety of liner formulas. Take that same liner and trace under your lower lashline, connecting to the gold on the inner third.
To finish off the eyes, add three coats of black volumizing mascara to your eyelashes.
Now it’s time to focus on the cheeks and lips. For this look, I chose a peachy pink blush with a hint of gold shimmer. To apply it, I used a small domed blush brush and concentrated the colour just behind the apples of my cheeks, closer to the tops of my cheekbones. Blend for a smooth natural flush of color.
For lip colour, I chose a soft pink gloss with small flecks of gold shimmer in keeping with our green and gold theme. Any lip product with a hint of gold should do the trick.
To wrap up your look, dust a very light layer of translucent powder over your face to set the products. Now you’re ready to put on your favourite U of A gear and head out to the game in true varsity style!
